Ingredients of Grape Jam
- 1 kg (2.2 lbs) grapes, any color with or without seeds
- ¾ – 1 cup sugar, or to taste
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- ½ cup grapes, deseeded halves, optional for chunky jam
Instructions
- Remove grapes from stem, wash clean and drain of excess water. Place in a large, heavy-bottomed pot.
- Add sugar and lemon juice and bring to a boil over moderate heat. Stir frequently and skim off any foam.
- Break down the fruit with a potato masher while it cooks. Continue cooking until jam is thick and glossy, about 30-45 minutes.
- To test if the jam is done, place a teaspoonful on a chilled plate and refrigerate for a minute or two. If the jam sets, it is ready. If not, continue cooking for a few more minutes.
- If you want a smoother jam, puree it in a blender or food processor before transferring it to jars.
- If you are canning the jam, follow your preferred canning method. Otherwise, simply transfer the jam to clean, sterilized jars and seal them tightly.
