Ingredients of Grape Jam

  • 1 kg (2.2 lbs) grapes, any color with or without seeds
  • ¾ – 1 cup sugar, or to taste
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • ½ cup grapes, deseeded halves, optional for chunky jam

Instructions

  1. Remove grapes from stem, wash clean and drain of excess water. Place in a large, heavy-bottomed pot.
  2. Add sugar and lemon juice and bring to a boil over moderate heat. Stir frequently and skim off any foam.
  3. Break down the fruit with a potato masher while it cooks. Continue cooking until jam is thick and glossy, about 30-45 minutes.
  4. To test if the jam is done, place a teaspoonful on a chilled plate and refrigerate for a minute or two. If the jam sets, it is ready. If not, continue cooking for a few more minutes.
  5. If you want a smoother jam, puree it in a blender or food processor before transferring it to jars.
  6. If you are canning the jam, follow your preferred canning method. Otherwise, simply transfer the jam to clean, sterilized jars and seal them tightly.

Tips

  • For a sweeter jam, add more sugar. For a less sweet jam, add less sugar.
  • For a more tart jam, add more lemon juice. For a less tart jam, add less lemon juice.
  • If you want a chunky jam, add the deseeded grape halves back to the pot before transferring the jam to jars.
  • Store the jam in a cool, dark place for up to 1 year.
